King Floyd (1945-2006) is best remembered for the exquisite "Groove Me", which was a huge hit in 1971 and later also for Fern Kinney, who scored with her disco version in 1979. "The follow-up to "Groove Me" was "Baby Let Me Kiss You", like "Groove Me", another funky thing, and it reached #5 on the American Billboard R&B chart in 1971. "Woman Don't Go Astray", also taken from this LP, got to #3. Between 1971 and 1977, King Floyd released five splendid albums. This track is from his 1971 LP on Cotillion, a subsidiary to the Atlantic record label. Produced by "E. Walker for Malaco Productions". Not much of King Floyd's stuff has been issued on CD and while on the subject; one word of warning concerns the "Best of" called "Choice Cuts" issued in 1994 which I was so excited about until I played it and could hear it was made from old crackly vinyl and not the original master tapes. Shame on you, Waldoxy Records! All Music Guide Biography by Jason Ankeny Best remembered for the smash "Groove Me," New Orleans soul singer King Floyd was born in the Crescent City on February 13, 1945, and raised in nearby Kenner, LA. He began singing on street corners while in his early teens, befriending local musicians like Earl King and Willie Tee. With the aid of New Orleans blues legend Mr. Google Eyes, Floyd landed his first paying gig at the Bourbon Street club Sho-Bar in 1961, although his fledgling career was soon put on hold by military duty. Following his army discharge in late 1963, Floyd migrated to New York City, signing with booking agents Shaw Artists and regularly performing throughout Manhattan. He also began writing songs, encouraged by the likes of Don Covay and J.J. Jackson. After about a year he resettled in Los Angeles, befriending another New Orleans expatriate, composer/arranger Harold Battiste. Through Battiste, Floyd met DJ Buddy Keleen, who in turn brought him to the Original Sound label, which in 1965 issued his debut single, "Walkin' and Talkin'." Floyd's debut LP, the Battiste-arranged King Floyd: A Man in Love, followed on the Mercury subsidiary Pulsar in 1967; the album went nowhere, and as he was barely making ends meet as a songwriter, he finally returned to New Orleans in 1969. Now a family man, Floyd accepted a post office job upon returning home, but within a month he ran into producer Wardell Quezerque, then a staffer at Malaco Records. On May 17, 1970, they traveled to Malaco's Jackson, MS, studios to cut "Groove Me," recorded in just one take at the same session that would also yield another Quezerque-produced blockbuster, Jean Knight's "Mr. Big Stuff." Floyd wrote "Groove Me" while working in an East L.A. box factory in honor of a young college girl on staff. He was set to give her the lyrics on the morning she abruptly quit, and he never saw her again. With Quezerque's assistance, he transformed the song into a deeply funky, percolating jam somewhere between the best of James Brown and Otis Redding, but ironically, the song first appeared on the Malaco subsidiary Chimneyville as merely the B-side of Floyd's soulful "What Our Love Needs." Only when New Orleans DJ George Vinnett flipped the record over did "Groove Me" begin meriting the attention it deserved, and as the record emerged as a local smash, Atlantic scooped up national distribution rights. "Groove Me" went on to top the Billboard R&B charts and hit number six on the pop charts, going gold on Christmas Day of 1970. Needless to say, Floyd quit his civil service gig and went on a national tour, returning to the R&B Top Ten early in 1971 with the follow-up "Got to Have Your Love," culled from his self-titled Atlantic LP. Creative differences quickly undermined Floyd's relationship with Quezerque, however, and subsequent efforts, including the fine 1973 LP Think About It, attracted little attention. In a surprise move, Atlantic then issued as a single "Woman Don't Go Away" from the 1971 King Floyd album, earning a gold record three years after the song's original appearance. But Atlantic's agreement with Malaco soon ended, and the latter signed a new distribution deal with Miami-based TK, which also assumed Floyd's production reins for 1975's Well Done, which featured the minor hit "I Feel Like Dynamite." He split with Malaco soon after, landing with Mercury's Dial subsidiary for a one-off single titled "Can You Dig It?"; at the same time, Malaco issued Body Language, a collection of his unreleased recordings for the label. The emergence of disco left few outlets for Floyd's staunchly Southern brand of soul, and in 1978 he returned to L.A. in an attempt to reignite his career and battle some personal demons; upon coming back to Kenner three years later, he mustered up a few local gigs, and in 1982 spent a month touring South Africa. Floyd spent the remainder of the next two decades drifting in and out of the music industry, finally releasing a new Malaco effort, Old Skool Funk, in 2000.

King James Bible - Providential1611's Rebuttal to Satan's Perverted Bible Version Believers - January 24, 2011 http://www.youtube.com/user/Providential1611 http://www.usekjvonly.com/about.html About Us We are Christians, disciples of Jesus Christ. We read the King James Bible daily; we continue in the Word. Our hope is in Jesus Christ: “...Christ in you, the hope of glory:” Colossians 1:27 This was not always the case. In the past, we thought we were Christians, but unfortunately we had been deceived. Over the years we were in different churches - Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, and some others. We were in different Bibles - but not the King James Version. We were members of a protestant church. We were involved in social groups, attending services, and teaching Sunday School. But we didn’t know the truth. A pamphlet came into our possession which discussed the different Bible Versions, making the case for the King James Version as the only true word of God - the rest being perverted. The Lord convicted us that this was true. So, we got rid of the bibles we had and started reading only the King James Version. This was like the difference between night and day: "To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me." Acts 26:18 Things were different for us now. We had the mind of Christ: "But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ." 1 Corintians 2:15-16 As we read the King James Version (KJV), the Spirit of God came into us: "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." John 6:63 We had faith: "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:17 The word of God is the KJV - so now we had faith - not a false faith from a false bible (see our KJV tract). We were now spiritual - not in the flesh: "Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more." 2 Corintians 5:16 But we knew Christ spiritually. In the old churches, in the old Bibles, etc., we knew Christ after the flesh - but now we knew Christ spiritually. Praise God! As we daily read the KJV Bible, we became acutely aware that we also had to do what it says: "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." James 1:22 We tried to convince friends, pastors, and others, including in the protestant church, of this truth. No takers in the church. They were in the dark and blind, but thought they were saved, and in need of nothing: "I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:" Revelation 3:15-17 So they were blind and Jesus was going to spue them out of His mouth. If Jesus does this, then they’re not in the Body of Christ - they’re not saved. They’re lukewarm. We wanted no part of this fate. We knew that they were blind and: "Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch." Matthew 15:14 We didn’t want to fall into the ditch. The bibles they used were “false Christs” and therefore idols (see KJV tract). These people were idolaters - and didn’t know it. God forbids us to “keep company” with anyone who calls himself a Christian and yet is an idolater: "But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat." 1 Corintians 5:11 We can’t eat with them; that is, we can’t eat “the bread of life” (), which is Jesus, with them. This means no Christian fellowship with them. So, if we stayed in that church it would be sin because we’d be breaking God’s commandment. This would mean death to us because “...the wages of sin is death...” (). Or we could comply with God’s admonitions: "Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry." 1 Corintians 10:14 "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?" 2 Corintians 6:14 "Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." 2 Corintians 6:17-18 So we did. We came out of the false churches. We separated ourselves from false brethren, from false bibles: "Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom." Proverbs 18:1 Since we can find no local “church” that complies with God’s standards and requirements as found in His Word (KJV), we have a home church. We fellowship with those who are like-minded, accepting the KJV as the complete, perfect, and final authority and truth: The Word of God.
