Canned Heat - On the Road again (Beat Club 1969) Canned Heat est un groupe de blues-rock américain formé en 1965. Ses plus grands succès ont été “On The Road Again” en 1968 et “Going Up The Country” en 1969. Le groupe, toujours en activité de nos jours, a participé activement à la vague du blues revival à la fin des années 60. Canned Heat est le fruit de la rencontre à Los Angeles de deux grands amateurs de blues : le chanteur Bob Hite et le guitariste Alan Wilson. Hite The Bear (en référence à sa forte corpulence) et Wilson The Owl, Blind Owl (pour sa mauvaise vue) sont rejoints par le guitariste Henry Vestine (surnommé Sunflower, et ancien membre des Mothers of Invention de Frank Zappa), le bassiste Larry "The Mole" Taylor ( musicien de studio ayant joué avec Jerry Lee Lewis et The Monkees ) et le batteur Frank Cook. Le groupe tire son nom d'un vieux blues de Tommy Johnson intitulé Canned Heat Blues, écrit en 1928. Le Canned Heat était une boîte de conserve qui contenait de l'alcool quasiment pur utilisé comme produit de ménage. En pleine prohibition, les plus démunis en tiraient une boisson hautement toxique. Tommy Johnson est d'ailleurs décédé d'empoisonnement par consommation du produit. Alternant entre blues, rock, boogie, reprenant de vieux standards du blues, le groupe enregistre en 1967 son premier album, simplement intitulé Canned Heat. La sortie de cet album, peu avant le passage remarqué du groupe au festival de Monterey, n'a qu'un succès mitigé. En revanche, le deuxième album , titré Boogie With Canned Heat, connaît un vrai succès. On y retrouve le classique On The Road Again, devenu l'un des morceaux les plus fameux de l'histoire du rock. Alors que le chanteur habituel du groupe est Bob Hite, c'est Alan Wilson qui chante sur ce titre. Sa voix haute, fragile et légèrement étouffée, le rend immédiatement identifiable. Sur cet album , Cook est remplacé à la batterie par Fito de la Parra qui avait joué avec Los Sinners, Los Hooligans, The Platters, The Shirelles, T-Bone Walker et Etta James. En 1969, Canned Heat poursuit sur sa lancée avec le double album Living The Blues. Il contient notamment le remarquable Going Up The Country (à nouveau chanté par Alan Wilson), immortalisé dans le film officiel du festival de Woodstock, où le groupe se produit durant l'été (la version live de Going Up The Country figure sur la bande originale du film). Ce morceau a aussi été utilisé dans la publicité "Renault Espace", qui met en scène un personnage de bande dessinée s'évadant vers la montagne. En 1970, Canned Heat sort son quatrième album, intitulé Future Blues puis enregistre dans la foulée Hooker'n'Heat, avec le revenant John Lee Hooker. C'est le dernier album du groupe dans sa forme d'origine. Le 3 septembre 1970, Alan Wilson est retrouvé mort dans la maison de Bob Hite d'une overdose de somnifères. On parlera de suicide, sans que les circonstances du décès ne soient jamais véritablement élucidées. Canned Heat poursuit néanmoins son existence, en multipliant les tournées. Le 5 avril 1981, le groupe connaît un nouveau drame avec la disparition de Bob Hite. Sombrant dans une phase auto-destructrice avec la disparition d'Alan et l'engouement populaire pour les discothèques, il tenta de prendre une ampoule d'héroïne (qu'il n'avait jamais essayé) qui, cumulée aux autres drogues a causé sa mort par overdose après un concert. Fito était présent, et l'avait pourtant mis en garde. Le 20 octobre 1997, Henry Vestine est mort à Paris aprés une tournée européenne. Bien qu'il ait été le plus drogué de tous les membres, et peut-être même de toute l'histoire du Blues, ce sont l'alcool et le tabac qui l'ont tué. Pour Canned Heat, l'alcool fort & les drogues dures sont interdits au sein du groupe. Ceux-ci ont toujours provoqué des changements de musiciens dans le "Line-Up". Henri n'a fait qu'aller et venir... Chicago Bulls Take Game 1 Over Miami Heat In Eastern Conference Finals

As makeups go, they'll take it. Rose scored 28 points, Luol Deng contained LeBron James and the Chicago Bulls struck first in the Eastern Conference finals, pulling away to beat the Miami Heat 103-82 in Game 1 on Sunday night. The Bulls are off to a good start after sweeping the Heat during the regular season. They went on a 10-0 run midway through the third quarter, then pulled away in the fourth. As the final minutes ticked away, fans chanted "Over-rated!" and "Beat the Heat!" Game 2 is Wednesday night in Chicago, and they're looking for another performance like this. Rose settled down after committing three of his four turnovers in the opening minutes and showed why he is the MVP. He hit three 3-pointers and the Bulls converted 10 of 21 in all. As for his apology? "It was on me," Rose said. "Careless turnovers. You can't do that against this team. When they get into the open court, they're too dangerous. ... I'm the point guard. I've got to do way better." He did just that after the early hiccup, particularly in the second half and hit some big shots down the stretch. Even so, this was no solo act. Deng had 21 points. He hit four 3s, had four steals, seven rebounds and simply put the clamps on The King, holding James to 15 points on 5-of-15 shooting. "Definitely to guard a guy like that the whole defense has to stay focused," Deng said. "There were times we switched and times we forced him into the double. Our bigs were great at forcing him into the front." Carlos Boozer added 14 points and nine rebounds. Joakim Noah had 14 rebounds and the Bulls pounded the Heat on the glass, 45-33, grabbing 19 on the offensive end while outscoring them 31-8 on second-chance points. Chris Bosh led Miami with 30 points and nine rebounds. Dwyane Wade scored 18 points, but the Heat simply were overmatched down the stretch.
