Janet Jackson - All Night (Don't Stop)
Janet Damita Jo Jackson (née le 16 mai 1966 à Gary dans l'Indiana, près de Chicago) est une chanteuse de R&B afro-américaine. Janet Jackson est la plus jeune fille de la famille Jackson. Petite, elle rêvait d'être jockey, mais chez les Jackson, tout le monde est musicien. À 7 ans, elle se retrouve sur scène pour la première fois avec ses frères, les « Jackson 5 », qui donnent un concert à Las Vegas. Le public est envouté par le charisme de la cadette du clan Jackson. Elle se lance dans la comédie et apparaît dans plusieurs « sitcoms », dont Arnold et Willy (Different Strokes), Good Times et Fame, mais son père préfère qu'elle fasse une carrière musicale plutôt qu'une carrière d'actrice. Ses deux premiers disques ne connaissent qu'un succès d'estime (Janet Jackson et Dreamstreet). Côté vie privée, elle se marie avec James Debarge alors qu'elle n'a que 18 ans, mariage qui ne durera que six mois. C'est en 1986 qu'elle obtient un succès mondial avec l'album Control, produit par John McClain, mais surtout par le tandem Jimmy Jam et Terry Lewis, d'anciens musiciens de Prince, reconvertis producteurs. Le son de l'album est ainsi volontairement orienté « Minneapolis Sound », le courant musical le plus en vogue à l'époque et caractéristique des hits Nasty et What Have You Done For Me Lately?. Dès lors, Janet se démarquera de ses consœurs par ses chorégraphies impressionnantes, son sens du détail irréprochable et un son révolutionnaire. Elle reste cependant dans l'ombre de Madonna et de Whitney Houston qui vendent plus de disques qu'elle. Cependant Janet va s'exiler pendant deux ans et préparer un album qui fera pâlir de jalousie ses concurrentes directes. Son successeur, le « groovesque » Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814, est publié en 1989 et conserve la même équipe de producteurs. L'album évoque le racisme, les problèmes de la rue et les difficultés sociales. L'album intrigue de par son titre et son contenu très sombre, aux antipodes des albums de l'époque. Les singles se vendent comme des petits pains, squattent les charts américains (sept chansons de l'album atteignent entre 1989 et 1991 le top 5 du fameux Billboard Hot 100 dont quatre atteignent la 1re place, un record que Madonna n'a jamais réussi à dépasser) et sa tournée triomphale la propulse au rang de star internationale, statut qu'elle ne quittera plus. En 1990, elle devient la plus grande vendeuse de disques de l'année et récolte une quantité impressionnante de prix, dont 14 « Billboard Music Awards » et plusieurs American Music Awards, MTV VMA Awards et même un Grammy Award dans la catégorie « Best Long Form Video ». Par ailleurs, elle reçoit au même moment son étoile sur Hollywood Boulevard. Mais plus important, avec son album, elle devient un modèle pour de nombreux jeunes tant son engagement pour la cause des enfants défavorisés ou en prise avec la drogue est important. Et malgré des propos peu commerciaux, elle réussit à vendre plus de disques que Madonna et Paula Abdul, ses deux plus grandes rivales d'antan. En 1991, elle rejoint l'écurie Virgin. Richard Branson étant fermement décidé à revitaliser l'image de Virgin Records America commet l'impensable : il signe avec Janet un contrat record de 30 millions de dollars pour l'enregistrement d'un seul album studio. Elle touche ainsi par album plus que Madonna ou son propre frère. L'album en question sera sobrement baptisé Janet. Sorti en mai 1993, elle délaisse son look de garçon manqué et militaire, et se réinvente une image glamour et très sensuelle, preuve en est la célèbre couverture du Rolling Stone Magazine, où elle apparaît simplement vêtue d'une paire de jeans et d'une paire de mains masculines recouvrant ses seins. Elle déstabilise ses fans de la première heure, mais cela s'avère payant: Janet explose les ventes avec 15 millions de copies (dont 7 uniquement aux États-Unis). Aux États-Unis, l'album se vend à plus de 350 000 exemplaires la première semaine, et réussi à rester en tête des ventes pendant six semaines, tandis que le single That's the Way Love Goes squatte la 1re place du classement des singles pendant huit semaines et remporte un « Grammy Award » dans la catégorie "Best R&B Song". Les autres singles qui suivront connaitront tous un succès mondial. Côté vie privée, elle se fait très discrète en épousant dans le plus grand secret René Elizondo. Ce mariage ne deviendra notoire qu'en 1999, au moment ou René demandera le divorce. Au sommet de son art, Janet sortira par ailleurs l'intégrale de ses vidéos entre 1986 et 1996 dans un DVD et un CD intitulé Design of a Decade, compilation qui atteint la 3e place du Billboard Hot 200 aux États-Unis. En 1995, juste après la fin de sa célèbre tournée mondiale « Janet World Tour »', elle enregistre avec son frère Michael un single intitulé Scream. Le clip vidéo issu de ce duo devient très médiatisé, et pour cause : coûtant la bagatelle de 7 millions de dollars, il devient à l'époque le clip musical le plus cher de l'histoire. La vidéo est tournée en noir et blanc, et sa réalisation sera confiée à Mark Romanek, avec qui Janet va de nouveau collaborer en 1997 pour son clip Got' Till It's Gone. Le clip fait sensation, Janet y apparaît avec un look aux antipodes de son image glamour: elle a les cheveux courts, une attitude trash et un sex appeal sauvage. La collaboration reçoit de nombreux prix, notamment celui de « Best Dance Video » aux MTV VMA Awards de 1995 et celui de « Best Short Form Video » aux Grammy Awards de 1996. Janet Jackson signe pour un nouveau contrat, toujours chez Virgin, un contrat multi-média de 100 millions de dollars. L'automne 1997 voit la sortie de l'opus The Velvet Rope. L'image de Janet et le contenu de l'album dérangent : en effet, celui-ci est le fruit d'une longue dépression que la chanteuse confesse avoir traversé suite à sa précédente tournée. Sa dépression a pour origine son grand sentiment de solitude et le grand manque d'estime dont elle dit avoir beaucoup souffert pendant son enfance d'actrice de série télé. Côté look, elle scandalise : le « bébé » de l'Amérique se perce le nez et les seins, elle arbore différents tatouages, et adopte une coupe de cheveux africaine. Néanmoins, la critique se pâme devant la maturité des textes et des compositions. L'album est un énorme succès au Japon et en Europe, tandis que l'Amérique pudibonde se montre réticente face à l'album. Heureusement la tournée « The Velvet Rope Tour » est un grand succès aux États-Unis et permet à l'album de se vendre à 3 millions d'exemplaires aux États-Unis. La tournée terminée, elle entame une série de collaborations avec Elton John, Blackstreet et Busta Rhymes, avant de retourner sur les plateaux de cinéma pour le film Professeur Foldingue, grand succès international. En 2001, Janet sort le très dansant All for You. Moins inventif et abouti que son prédécesseur, il rencontre néanmoins un beau succès, notamment grâce aux hits All for You (récompensé par un Grammy Awards en 2002), Doesn't Really Matter' (la B.O du film La famille Foldingue qui a été #1 aux États-Unis), Someone to Call My Lover et Son of a Gun. La première semaine de sa sortie, l'album se vend à plus de 600 000 exemplaires rien qu'aux États-Unis, soit autant que les ventes de la première semaine de ses albums Janet et The Velvet Rope réunies. Côté single, All for You reste en tête du classement des singles américain et devient le 10e #1 de Janet aux États-Unis (Hot 100) pendant sept semaines consécutives, au détriment de Survivor, le single très populaire des Destiny's Child qui se voit ainsi privé de la première position. L'album est un succès homérique au Japon, puisque 2 millions d'exemplaires s'y vendront. Après trois ans d'absence, elle crée un scandale aux États-Unis le 1er février 2004 lorsqu'elle dévoile un sein avec Justin Timberlake au Super Bowl. Cet évènement a pour conséquence le sabordage pur et simple de la promotion de son huitième opus, Damita Jo. En effet les radios américaines et MTV refusent purement et simplement de diffuser ses chansons. Au niveau international, l'album ne génèrera pas de grandes ventes. La faute à un album trop commercial, et une promotion bâclée. Janet fait la couverture du magazine US Weekly en juin 2006. Cette édition, dans laquelle Janet parle de son régime, devient la plus vendue aux États-Unis. Le 26 septembre 2006, elle sort son neuvième album, 20 Y.O., avec comme premier extrait Call On Me qui connaît un succès véritable aux États-Unis en devenant numéro 1 des classements "R&B Soul Sale" et "R&B Air Play" et aussi #1 "Singles Sales". Il reste en place un an dans ce dernier, mais il ne réussira pas à avoir la première place du classement général et ainsi devenir le très attendu (par les fans) 11e single #1 (du Billboard général) aux États-Unis de Janet. Plus d'un an après la sortie du single il rentre à nouveau dans les deux classements en novembre 2007. Produit par Jermaine Dupri, le compagnon de la chanteuse, l'album peine à se vendre aux États-Unis et dans le monde. Échaudé par cet échec commercial, Dupri annonce son départ de chez Virgin. Il sous-entend que la major aurait volontairement plombé la promotion du disque. Le deuxième single, So Excited, n'a quant à lui, eu aucun gros succès dans les charts pop aux États-Unis. Un troisième single sortira, avant que Janet lâche la promo de l'album moins de six mois après la sortie mondiale, ainsi elle abandonne aussi les répétitions pour une tournée mondiale, au profit du tournage d'un film en mars 2007 (futur #1 du box-office). En mai 2007, on apprend qu'elle retourne en studio et en juin 2007 le divorce avec Virgin Records est officiel. Heureusement, financièrement tout va bien pour la chanteuse, puisqu'en 2007, elle est classée 7e femme la plus riche de l'industrie du divertissement par le magazine Forbes, avec une fortune de 150 millions de dollars. Début de l'année 2007, elle accepte un rôle dans un film écrit et produit par Tyler Perry, Why Did I Get Married ? Elle tient le rôle d'un écrivain aux côtés de Tyler Perry et de Jill Scott. Le film sort aux États-Unis le 12 octobre 2007. Et malgré la concurrence avec les sorties des films de Cate Blanchett et de George Clooney, le film se place dès la première semaine en tête du box-office américain en générant 21,5 millions de dollars. Le film est un énorme succès aux États-Unis et totalise plus de 60 millions de dollars aux États-Unis. Il sort en DVD le 12 février 2008, un DVD qui dans les bonus offre un + du nom de "Janet Return of Icon". Son nouvel album Discipline, le premier avec son nouveau label Island et Def Jam, sera produit par LA Reid et sortira le 26 février 2008 (le 20 au Japon avec deux bonus). Lancé par le single Feedback dont la sortie sur tous les formats de radios est sorti le 7 janvier 2008 aux États-Unis, mais déjà classé le 21 décembre 2007 dans le Bilboard Air Play et entre directement à la 45e place et ça avant même la sortie officielle, est un très grand succès et se place premier au classement du BillBoard. Son album et son single feedback se vendent bien à travers le monde. La France semble faire la tête à Janet car ses deux nouveaux disque sont des flopes (source valentino buteau). Son nouveau single Rock with U commence à tourner sur les chaînes musicales internationales. Une tournée mondiale, sa première depuis 2001, devrait également voir le jour. Par ailleurs, Janet est en pleine écriture d’un livre qui relate ses récurrents problèmes de poids. Aucune date de sortie n’a cependant encore été communiquée. Son style musical se définit entre R&B, Pop, Soul et Rhythm and blues. Elle commence sa carrière avec des albums qui mélangent Soul, Disco, Rhythm'n'Blues, Funk et Pop. Puis elle décide de donner à ses chansons un style plus Urbain en utilisant le New jack swing et le Hip-hop tout en gardant le Rhythm'n'Blues, la Soul et la Pop. À l'arrivé du R&B elle abandonne définitivement le Rhythm'n'Blues pour adopter ce nouveau genre musical. Aujourd'hui on définit Janet comme une chanteuse de R&B/Pop. Son nouvel album est un peu plus Pop que R&B.

En 1993, Janet sort son cinquième album éponyme qui se vend à 15 millions d'exemplaires, rentre au Guiness Book des records et tourne dans le film « Poetic Justice » aux côtés du rappeur Tupac. Elle est alors presque aussi connue que son frère et c'est pour cette raison qu'ils chantent ensemble Scream en 1995. En 1997 sort « The Velvet Rope », l'album le plus vendu et connu de Janet. En 2000, elle revient dans la comédie « Professeur Foldingue II » aux côtés d'Eddy Murphy. Cependant, depuis « The Velvet Rope », Janet peine à retrouver son public et ce n'est pas son scandale du sein dévoilé au Super Bowl qui pourrait la sauver. Syria: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and UN-Arab League Joint Special Envoy for Syria, Kofi Annan on Syria - Joint Media Stakeout - February 29, 2012 Informal comments to the media by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and H.E. Mr. Kofi Annan, Joint Special Envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab States on the Syrian crisis, on the situation in Syria. Transcript of the joint press stakeout: SG: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. It is a great pleasure for me to be here with the distinguished former Secretary-General and out Joint Special Envoy on Syria, the Honorable Kofi Annan. I only wish the circumstances were less grim. The situation in Syria has grown increasingly desperate. There is no more urgent task before the international community than to end to the killing, immediately. The government must cease using force against civilians. We seek a cessation of violence that sets the stage for a peaceful solution - a solution that offers all the Syrian people, regardless of religion or ethnicity or political affiliation, a future of security, dignity and freedom. This is why, together with Secretary-General El-Araby of the League of Arab States and in accordance with the wishes of the General Assembly, we have appointed Mr. Annan as our Joint Special Envoy. We had a very good round of initial discussions this afternoon. We will be working closely and with great urgency in the days ahead. Following his meetings in New York, I have asked him to travel to Cairo to meet with the Secretary-General of the Arab League. From there, I will ask him to proceed to the region, including Damascus, as soon as possible. He will need the support of all those inside and outside Syria. I call on all parties to do their utmost. He will also be counting on the strong support of all Member States for his diplomatic efforts, including the Security Council. He will certainly have mine. I strongly urge the Syrian authorities to extend their full cooperation. I was extremely disappointed, this morning, to learn that our United Nations humanitarian coordinator Valerie Amos has still not been permitted to visit Syria, despite the clear need and despite the repeated commitments by the government that she would be welcomed. I take this opportunity to remind the Syrian authorities of their obligations under international humanitarian and human rights law, and I call on them once again to work toward a peaceful democratic solution for the Syrian people. Now, let me now know turn the floor over to you. Annan: Thank you very much Mr. Secretary-General and good evening. I’m happy to be here once again. But let me thank the Secretary-General and Secretary-General El-Araby of the League of Arab States for the trust they have shown to me, let me put it that way, and the responsibility they have given me. It is a very difficult assignment and it is a tough challenge. An the first thing we need to do as the Secretary-General has said is to do everything we can to stop the violence and the killing, to facilitate humanitarian access and ensure that the needy are looked after and work with the Syrians in coming up with a peaceful solution which respects their aspirations and eventually stabilizes the country. I am not going to say much tonight, since I am going to the region to talk to all concerned. But, let me say one thing. If we are going to succeed, it is extremely important that we all accept there should be one process of mediation. The one both the UN and the Arab League has asked me to lead. When you have more than one and people take their own initiatives, the parties play with the mediators. If one mediator says something they do not want they go to the other. So, one single unitary process, and it is when the international community speaks with one voice, that voice is powerful. And we should pool our efforts and work together. I am determined to work with everybody and I am going to consult broadly with all actors and I think that we are well on the way in that direction. Thank you very much. Q: Mr. Kofi Annan you get a joint mandate tonight to go to the region - the situation is desperate. Do you think you will be there just as a symbolic figure or you have a real message for Damascus. When do you think you are going to reach Damascus? Annan: I am in touch with leaders in the region and, of course, these regions will have to be arranged. And I am seeing also the Syrian Ambassador during my visit here and I have had the opportunity to reach out to leaders in the region and I am arranging the agenda. And, as you can imagine in this type of situation, every move is sensitive and highly political, even the itinerary, but we are working it out and I would expect to get to Syria fairly soon. Q: What about the message that my colleague asked you? What kind of message that you are expecting that you are going to convey to Mr. Assad that was already not heard from the Secretary-General and all other leaders of the international community? Annan: I think the message is clear – that the killing and the violence must stop. Humanitarian agencies must be given access to do their work and it is regrettable that that doesn’t seem to be happening - that is not happening. They should also find a way of resolving their [brief], getting them together for dialogue. There is a need for dialogue between all actors in Syria and that is what we would want to try and push as soon as possible, to get the dialogue going. I know there are people who have other ideas, that dialogue may not be the way to go and one should use other means. But, I think, for the sake of the people, for the sake of the Syrian people who are caught in the middle, a peaceful solution, through dialogue and a speedy one is a way to go. Q: Mr. Kofi Annan, during your career you have met Mr. Assad before. Do you think this gives you an edge in getting access to him, considering what happened with Under-Secretary-General Amos in the last few days being denied access, because of your prior meetings with him? Annan: Time will tell. We haven’t been in touch for a couple of years and so I will not presume anything. We will make the demarches and time will tell. But I would plead with him that he should engage, not only with me, but with the process that we are launching today. .. Q: The Syrian authorities have asked the United Nations to provide a written letter explaining “precise objectives” or the “precise objective” of your mission, Mr. Kofi Annan in Syria. SG: In fact, before the announcement of the Joint Special Envoy in London, I have asked my Chef de Cabinet, Mr. Nambiar, to inform the Syrian Government officially about our intended announcement of a Joint Special Envoy, that he did to Ambassador [Bashar] Ja’afari here in the Mission and my official letter is on its way to President [Bashar] Assad. North Korea had some harsh words of criticism for the exercises, saying it will resort to an all-out war. An annual United States-South Korea joint military drill is underway on Monday despite North Korea's threat of waging a war. On Sunday, North Korea's state-run television reported the reclusive country would respond to the joint military drills with (quote) "all-out" war if there was any provocation. South Korea says the drills are part of annual defense exercises. [Chun Hae-sung, Spokesman, South Korean Unification Ministry]: "As you are aware, the Key Resolve and Foal Eagle, which is joint military training between South Korea and the United States, is an annual exercise of defensive nature. Saying that the exercises are an invasion or provocation and criticizing them will not help inter-Korean relations." Around 30 protesters gathered at the military command headquarters in Sungnam, south of Seoul, and staged a rally against the latest joint military drill. [You Young-jae, Protest Leader]: "The war game which has mobilized more than 200,000 troops has started. We're strongly urging them to stop this war drill because it will hamper dialogue which has been initiated."
