Billy Joel - In The Middle Of The Night

Billy Joel naît le 9 mai 1949 à Hicksville aux Etats-Unis. Enfant, il apprend à jouer du piano puis traîne dans des gangs. Le passage des Beatles au Ed Sullivan Show le convainc de faire carrière dans la musique. Il fonde le groupe Echoes qui connaît le succès à New York. Agé de seize ans, il décide de quitter l'école. Après être passé par plusieurs formation, il monte le duo Attila avec Jon Small et leur album éponyme fait un carton. Le groupe se sépare pourtant. En 1971, Billy Joel signe son premier album solo Cold Spring Harbor. Il épouse en 1973 Elizabeth Weber puis enregistre Piano Man. Il part en tournée et dans la foulée signe Streetlife Serenade puis Turntiles. Ce n'est qu'avec The Stranger que Billy Joel devient une star en en vendant plus de sept millions d'exemplaires. L'album suivant 52nd Street se place numéro 1 des classements américains grâce aux singles My Life et Honesty. Suivent Glass Houses (1980), Songs In The Attic (1981), The Nylon Curtain (1982) et Innocent Man (1983) au cours desquels il divorce d'Elizabeth Weber puis se remarrie avec le top model Christie Brinkley. En 1985, il signe The Bridge. S'en suit une énorme tournée en URSS qui fera l'objet d'un double album live. Billy Joel continue d'étoffer sa discographie et reçoit en 1991 le Grammy Living Legend par la National Academy of Recordings Arts and Sciences. Deux ans plus tard, son album River of Dreams se place directement numéro 1 des charts. Peu de temps après, il divorce de Christie Brinkley. En l'an 2000, il sort l'album live 2000 Years: The Millenium Concert. L'année suivante, Billy Joel revient avec Fantaisies & Delusions. Son dernier disque en date, paru en 2006 s'intitule 12 Gardens Live. Parce que son père le voyait bien concertiste classique, William Martin Joel apprend le piano dès l'âge de quatre ans, mais c'est au rock'n' roll qu'il consacrera sa vie. A quatorze ans, il rejoint son premier groupe de rock, The Echoes, puis en 1968 The Hassles avant de fonder Attila. Le succès est bref et dès le début des années 70, Billy Joel décide d'écrire seul ses premiers albums, de 'Cold Spring Harbor' à 'Turnstiles'. La consécration arrive en 1977 avec 'The Stranger' où figure 'Just the Way you Are', véritable tube qui lui vaut distinctions et reprises par de nombreux artistes. Les albums suivants confirment son talent, mais son expérience de musicien de piano-bar assortie d'une volonté farouche de ne jamais se répéter le poussent vers toujours plus de diversité, du très rock 'Glass Houses' au plus traditionnel 'Songs in the Attic', en passant par 'The Nylon Curtain', un album qui reflète les préoccupations sociopolitiques de toute une génération. Les années 80 sont couronnées de succès et marquées par de longues tournées, notamment à Moscou et à Leningrad, alors séparés du reste de l'Europe par le Rideau de fer. Fin 1994, après avoir annoncé sa retraite, Billy Joel reprend du service, entre concerts exceptionnels - à Central Park, au Madison Square Garden - et albums rétrospectifs. En trente ans d'une carrière volontairement éclectique dans ses choix musicaux, Billy Joel s'est imposé comme l'un des artistes pop-rock les plus populaires.

Japan Fukushima: Highest Level of Radiation Detected YET! - August 1, 2011 Highest radioactivity level detected at nuke plant The operator of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant says it has detected 10,000 millisieverts of radioactivity per hour at the plant. The level is the highest detected there since the nuclear accident in March. Workers of Tokyo Electric Power Company, or TEPCO, on Monday measured the extremely high level of radioactivity near pipes at the bottom of a duct between the No.1 and neighboring No.2 reactor buildings. According to the science ministry's brochure, if a human received 10,000 millisieverts, they would likely die within a week or two. TEPCO has restricted access to the site and the surrounding area. The utility says the workers taking measurements on Monday were exposed to up to 4 millisieverts. The utility says the high level of radioactivity was detected because the pipes were used to vent air containing radioactive substances from the crippled No.1 reactor on March 12th. The utility had detected a maximum of 1,000 millisieverts per hour outdoors in debris, and also found a maximum of 4,000 millisieverts per hour indoors in one of the reactor buildings.
