Japan: Hearing behind closed door to restart Oi nuclear power plants? January 30, 2012 On the 18th of January, Ministry of Trade, Economy and Industry had its Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency hold a public hearing where experts review the results of the stress tests regarding the Oi nuclear power plants operated by Kansai Electric Power Co. in Fukui prefecture(located in the central region of Japan's main island). Unlike the previous one, the Agency had the hearing closed to the publc. A group of Japanese citizens demanded that the Agency allow them to observe the hearing. Also, they demanded that the Agency get rid of three members of the hearing saying they received donations from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries that built the plants. The ageny turned down their demand and resumed the hearing in the other room while two members (Mr.Goto and Mr.Ino) refused to attend the hearing saying the hearing should be open to the public. At the end, only four of the original members remained in the hearing, and they came to conclusion that the results are reasonable. Strangely, almost all the major news media in Japan only reported that anti-nuclear protesters disrupted the hearing. Japan: No freedom of speech in Japan nowadays - December 21, 2011 Three days after announcing the cold shutdown of the crippled nuclear power plants, the prime minister Noda was going to give a public speech at the Shimbashi station in Tokyo. Before he showed up, protesters there with a placard saying like "No one trust you! Cold shutdown? The nuclear accident contained ? Who would believe that!?" were restrained by police officers. The prime minister Noda didn't show up presumably following the news of Kim Jong-il's death. Surviving Japan - A documentary FULL Preview 生き残り日本 災害 ドキュメンタリー - December 12, 2011 ORDER YOUR DVD HERE TO HELP SUPPORT THIS DOCUMENTARY http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/324769158/surviving-japan この映像の多くは、日本語のシーンです Inside story of 2011 Japanese Tsunami relief & nuclear crisis. A critical look at how the authorities handled the nuclear crisis and Tsunami relief by an American who volunteered in the clean-up. Surviving Japan is a documentary by volunteer and director Chris Noland. It is in short, a documentary of the devastating events in Japan and the after-math that followed. The documentary shows the humanitarian and aid crisis that faced the people in the wake of both natural and nuclear disaster. It features true stories from those affected by the disaster, the government and even TEPCO. It highlights the struggle in dealing with: The Tsunami clean-up, lack of Government response to the disaster, radiation plus the future of nuclear power after the accident, a possible Cover-up of the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear disaster, and an uncooperative Government that dismisses legitimate health concerns while providing the citizens with little to no information about the effects the disaster would have on their future. "The continuance of using such finite energy resources will only produce limited results for a limited number, leaving the rest of the world out of the equation." - C. Noland This movie is not just for Japan, it is for the world. I started this project as a volunteer after the Great East Japan Earthquake. Aside from the obvious wake-up call received by the nuclear accident was that of the massive debris. This debris is mostly from our consumer culture and non-renewable lifestyles we live on earth today, one the earth cannot sustain forever. The Aim is to inform, educate and change. I have gathered interviews from the ground up. From Tsunami refugee denied food and aid, to Government Officials, to even TEPCO. This same Bureaucracy is the one that keeps us from non-renewable energy and peace on earth. This documentary is not just for Japan, it is for the world, because if we do not make change, we will not have one. -------------------------------------------------------------- Source: Name: Chris Noland TV Websites: http://www.youtube.com/user/ChrisNolandTV http://www.facebook.com/chrisnoland Hometown: Minato City Tokyo Country: Japan -------------------------------------------------------------

Japan Fukushima : Strontium Tainted Water 'no problem' - December 4, 2011 Strontium-tainted water leak suspected Tokyo Electric Power Company says the water may contain high levels of radioactive strontium. Strontium causes internal radiation exposure. The company is trying to determine whether the water reached the sea. The utility said at about 11:30 am on Sunday a water leak was spotted in a device to remove salt from contaminated water from which radioactive material had already been removed. It said the leak was stopped after the device was turned off, but at least 45 tons of water containing radioactive materials may have leaked out, with some portion possibly reaching a ditch outside the facility. The level of radioactive cesium had been reduced to 45 becquerels per cubic centimeter after the treatment. But the water is believed to have contained 130,000 becquerels per cubic centimeter of radioactive strontium. The ditch connects to the sea about 600 meters away. The power company is piling up sand bags in the ditch to prevent the water from flowing to the sea. The water is used to cool down the reactors in the power plant and the utility says the leak does not pose any problems for the process.
