!

It's Midnight here in the United Kingdom and I'm waiting for information on the results of this years Golden Globe awards. I'm hoping and praying that Marion wins an award.

When I was 5 years old I was introduced to Edith Piaf by my father who said out loud "I hate that French Sparrow!" when her death was announced on the Television news. I was 5 years old then and I said to myself... Mike... remember that name when you're older! 15 years went by and then, out of the blue, I remembered those words. That was IT! I searched and I found the "French Sparrow" that my father so hated. I read, I listened, I watched and I fell in love with Edith Piaf!

Over the next 30 years Edith has never left my mind or soul. I read all I could. Purchased all the recordings I could and I joined Les Amis D'Edith Piaf. I have met people like Charles Dumont and Charles Aznavour. I visited the grave and I wept just as the two million people wept who followed Ediths funeral proccession. For so many years there was talk here and there about a Piaf movie. It would be almost impossible to do for so many reasons. Time went by and then, out of the blue, came "La Mome"!

I must have been one of the first to see the film when it was released in the United Kingdom and I purchased the DVD the day it was released. I'm still stunned by the film. Every single person involved in the making of it should be so very pleased with themselves. The writer, The Producer and Director... EVERYONE! You all contributed to a film that, like Piaf herself, will never be topped and will always be around as long as humans walk this Earth!

Now, Marion, How much more praise can you take from people? I don't know where to start and I would never know where to finish. Words fail me as to your talent. The time you must have spent trying to become Edith must have been enormous. The eyes, the lips, the walk... everything. I'm not talking about the make-up but the mannerisms... You're not simply an actoress playing Edith... You became Edith! You were Edith! You are a very, very, special person and I am sure that La Mome is happy at last. Happy in her grave and in life for she will always be with us whilst we want her to be.

You have introduced several generations to Edith that would, perhaps, never have known her. For that reason alone you shold be so very proud. When you watch La Mome you are there and she is there. There is no seperation between the film and the viewer. I've watched it so many times I've lost count! Each time it is fresh and awe inspiring. Each time I watch I cry. Not for the story because that is very much incomplete and rightly so. It's for the way in which it was filmed, the actors and, most of all, you Marion. All I can say is that I thank you for being Edith Piaf and I thank you for being YOU!

I almost forgot to say... My father, now 80, watched the film and cried his eyes out along with my mother. After all these years YOU turned hate into love!

Keep up your good work, keep on singing and keep on... knitting! :-) I wish you success and joy in all you do.

I really hope you get a Golden Globe and an Oscar... If you don't then there's something wrong somewhere. :-o

God bless Edith Piaf. God bless Marion Cotillard and God bless France! X X X
