birdpaula ~ love is a garden Birdpaula was born at the foot of the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee into a family of artists. From as early as she can remember there was music, art, philosophy, travels, partying going on all around her. Beatnik existentialism, experimental theater, folk and blues fest...this was the staple of the artists, musicians, scholars, and students that convened regularly in the various family households from Chicago, to Paris, Boston, Ibiza and back again. After studies in fine arts and french literature she settled in Paris, doing on and off modelling and acting jobs, raising a family, and playing the Parisian blues club circuit. Songwriting and composing music for television became a mainstay. Since the 90’s she has divided her time between painting and music. In 2005 she appeared on her son Jackson’s album Smash – Jackson and His Computer Band. Jackson’s friend Marc Collin was swayed by her performances on the album and contacted her to work on some of his projects. Soon they began to work on an album of her own songs. The resultant “love is a garden” runs the gamut from moody folk, aerial blues, to jazz. She is also featured on the Nouvelle Vague album Bande à Part with her interpretation of U2’s Pride.
